Use L&L's online submission form to log in and upload your article. If you are submitting for an author, please note that you must enter the author's contact information not your own. L&L is a practitioner-written magazine published by ISTE, a professional membership association that strives to advance excellence in learning and teaching through the effective and innovative uses of technology in K–12 and teacher education. Articles are not  peer reviewed. They are editor reviewed.

L&L contributors and readers are typically superintendents, school administrators, district- and building-level technology coordinators, heads of schools, faculty, classroom teachers, library media specialists, and teacher educators. Contributors are not paid but do get a byline as well as several complimentary copies of the issue that contains their article.

L&L articles emphasize practical ideas and provide how-to tips for integrating digital age skills (NETS) effectively into K–12 classrooms, curriculum, and administration. Articles make connections with ISTE’s NETS and explain how examples and resources contribute to the essential conditions for meeting the standards. We also run articles focusing on trends and best practices in educational technology.

L&L does not publish the following types of content:
·Personnel changes, district or school news, or news about districts acquiring new products
·Case studies
·Literature reviews
·Research reports

Please send a query before submitting a manuscript so the editors can ensure that the magazine effectively covers a broad range of topics. Email your query to Kate Conley, editor, at kconley@iste.org. Please include a brief but specific description of your manuscript idea and why you think this information would be useful to the L&L audience. Be sure to include the kind of technology your manuscript will discuss and its primary outcome or effect on learning or teaching. Please allow one week to receive a reply to your query. The editor will let you know if you should proceed with drafting your manuscript. This process applies even if you have already written your manuscript. Please note that submitting a manuscript does not guarantee publication. An invitation to submit does not constitute the automatic acceptance of your manuscript. By submitting, you formally initiate the editorial review process.

Manuscripts should be first-person accounts, and the writing should be lively and engaging. You should identify all adults mentioned in examples or as sources of information by first and last name, position and/or job title, school or district, city and state/province, and/or country. Identify minors by their full names when possible. Any hypothetical situations or composite characters referenced in the manuscript should be clearly portrayed as such.

L&L articles should have no more than two authors. We grant authorship to those who actually write the article. Contributors, mentors, supervisors, or partners who worked on a project that the article focuses on can be mentioned in an acknowledgment section at the end of the piece. Special circumstances may merit an exception to the two-author limit, but requests must be discussed with and approved by L&L Editor Kate Conley (kconley@iste.org).

Before submitting an idea or manuscript, please read the magazine to get a feel for the tone, style, length, and subject matter that we cover. We are looking for diverse articles that span a range of educational technologies as well as a range of disciplines, grades, and subjects. Manuscripts should be written in magazine style. We do not require a reference list, but please include a list of resources mentioned in the manuscript.

Here is a brief description of the types of articles we accept:

Features: These articles showcase successful projects or models that incorporate technology for staff development, student learning, or infrastructure implementation. Features illustrate how projects or models helped teachers use technology to make a difference in student learning. Features should be about 2,000 words.

Learning Connections articles: These articles range from 200 to 1,000 words and focus on how to implement technology in the classroom. These articles focus on problem solving, inquiry, project-based learning, higher-order thinking, collaboration, innovation, and creativity. Use the NETS as your guide.

Reviews: Reviews should be fair and objective, factually complete, and 500–1,000 words in length. Software reviews should include screenshot capture(s) of the product in use. Hardware reviews should include a picture of the device (preferably in use).

Tips: These short articles of about 150 words focus on a practical, easily implemented technology tip or trick.

If your manuscript is conditionally accepted for publication, the L&L editors will edit for style, tone, grammar, and length. You may be asked to make changes or provide additional information several times as the article goes through our editing process. The review and considerations process can take as long as three months. As noted earlier, submitting a manuscript does not guarantee publication. An invitation to submit does not constitute the automatic acceptance of your manuscript. By submitting, you formally initiate the editorial review process. The editors reserve the right to reject the article even after it’s been conditionally accepted. L&L’s acceptance rate is approximately 40%.

Supplementary Materials
Upon acceptance, be prepared to provide photos, tables, charts, or other graphic elements that illustrate your article. Please provide images in the file format original to your camera, in RGB color, large format, and high resolution (300 dpi at 100% of run size without interpolation). Unless professionally prepared, we prefer that the L&L staff manipulate images to our final specifications. All authors (and co-authors) must complete and submit a transfer-of-copyright form as part of the initial submissions process.
